Twitter, the US social platform, recently disclosed its new cannabis advertising policy through its official website, and the US cannabis advertising policy continues to be loosened. In January this year, Google Advertising just announced that it would no longer ban all industrial cannabis and CBD advertising in California, Colorado and Puerto Rico. Are these some signs of the change in the direction of the US federal regulations?
AdCann, a cannabis marketing and advertising website in Toronto, was the first to report this news, saying that Twitter will allow advertisers to promote brand preferences and marijuana-related content, and the products and services allowed to be advertised include:
1. CBD and similar cannabinoid products.
2. THC and similar products.
3. Cannabis-related products and services, including distribution services, laboratories and activities.
Before advertising, American cannabis companies, brands and suppliers need to go through the advertiser approval process of Twitter. Once approved, industry marketing agencies will be able to use the full set of advertising products of Twitter, including promotion of tweets, promotion of product opportunities, positioning of Takeover, video spots, sponsorship ads, and collaborative publishing topics.

However, the new guidelines still set various restrictions and conditions for cannabis advertisers:
1. Advertisers must obtain permission from relevant authorities and pre-authorization from Twitter.
2. Advertisers' online promotion of cannabis products and services is limited to their licensed jurisdictions.
3. Advertisers shall not promote and promote cannabis, including cannabinoid CBD. Exception: CBD external use (non use) products extracted from industrial hemp with THC content not higher than the government limit (3%).
4. Advertising mainly complies with all applicable laws, regulations, rules and advertising guidelines.
5. Advertisers are not allowed to promote advertisements for customers under the age of 21.
The company also set other restrictions on cannabis advertising:
1. It is not allowed to advertise minors directly. The login page must have an age barrier and the age must be verified before sales.
2. People, athletes, stars or pictures that can attract minors shall not be used in advertisements.
3. Advertisements shall not use minors or pregnant women as models.
4. Do not claim curative effect or health care effect.
5. Do not make false or misleading claims.
6. It is not allowed to display the use scenario of cannabis products.
7. It is not allowed to describe the person who uses cannabis or is in use.
8. Trans-state transportation of cannabis shall not be encouraged.
