Missouri's Division of Cannabis Regulation has issued new rules regarding marijuana packaging: pre roll plastic tube, glass tube, glass jar.
The terms "sativa," "indica" and "hybrid" are only to be displayed on packaging if it is part of a logo or a product name, the division has enforced.
The new rule is intended to educate people in hopes of making marijuana products (mylar bags, glass concentrate container, squeeze top vials) less appealing to younger children, according to spokesperson for the Department of Health and Senior Services. Hopes these new regulations will keep marijuana products out of children's hands. Child proof glass jar, child resistant plastic vials, child safe pet jars.
"It's very important that the packaging \ for marijuana clearly says marijuana and it has no appeal to children, so there is no misunderstanding when it comes to marijuana packaging than other consumable items,"
In 2023, 204 children ages 5 and under were exposed to cannabis edibles, according to the Missouri Poison Control Center. Effects of the consumption of these include vomiting, rapid heart rate and difficulties breathing.
Marijuana became legal in Missouri in November 2022. Dispensaries began selling marijuana for medical and recreational purposes in February 2023. State dispensaries sold over $1 billion worth of marijuana products in 2023 alone.
Dispensaries and businesses in Missouri are continuing to adapt to new regulations and guidelines, hoping to further the industry's economic growth.
